So there comes a time when all good things must come to an end, and today is that day for www.Futuregamez.net.
After running the site for almost 18 years it's time to hang up the boots and call it a day so I can focus on family and living the good life. Yes, 18 years! Over that period of time I've published over 1,000 game reviews on Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, and PS4, just as many previews if not more, over 400 Blu-Ray reviews and then had massive amounts of news coverage, interviews, and other special articles. That's a lot of writing and a lot of time dedicated to a gaming site which was always run as a hobby, and not for profit.
Looking forward, I also want to play games from a consumer point of view, take my time with each title, and no longer rush through a 20+ hour game, cast a critical eye over everything and then write a 1000-2000 word review in a timely fashion to meet a "deadline" either set by myself or occasionally (nicely) requested by companies. Sometimes those "deadlines" slipped despite best intentions.
As any journalist or reviewer can attest it’s a job (or hobby in my case) that has some ups and downs. Sure it’s easy to write reviews about high quality and enjoyable games and movies and praise their creators and their achievements, but it's the mediocre or sometimes terrible ones where you know the developer or filmmakers' heart was in the right place, but they weren't given the budget or time, or it just never came together as expected that hurts. We realise that, on some level, in some small way. we often contributed to shattering the hopes and dreams of hard working people that often spent years on these projects, and potentially putting their careers in jeopardy. Sadly that is the life of a reviewer but we also hope that in some small way our criticisms also went to pushing these artists further on their next project.
Before I go there are a few people I must mention and thank...
To all the wonderful people in the games and movie industry both past and present. Your ongoing support for a fan site such as Futuregamez has been invaluable and there are certainly some lifelong friendships that have formed over the years. For all the news, info, review discs and events that I attended, thank you. Sony and Rebecca in particular - you know I love your systems through and through - and your support exceeded all expectations over the years.
To the reviewers who have worked on the site over the years a big thank you. Without you there is no way I could have covered all the games. In particular I'd like to thank to Mike Allison who has been with me over the last several years as I battled with the decision to keep the site going. Without his support I likely would have ended the site some time ago now. He's a fantastic guy who does quality reviews so if anyone needs a writer drop me an e-mail and I'll put you in touch. You all know how great his reviews are and how passionate he is.
To the readers – you made running the site worthwhile and I’ve become friends with quite a few of you over the years. Your support, discussions and friendships are what made running the site so enjoyable for so long.
To my family and friends who have put up with me over the years when I've been busy playing games or writing reviews. I never tried to let it stand in the way of catching up, but I know it did. Now, I’ll have more time to annoy you all!
Of course, last but not least, a MEGA thank you to my wife for her support. Theresa has been instrumental in keeping the site going over pretty much the duration of our relationship – watching me play and get abusive at so many games, watching some great but also horrible movies with me. She still supports me of course whether I continued or closed the site, but it was the arrival of our little girl Sophie two years ago (the same day the PS4 launch in Australia in fact!) that has change my perspective and focus in life. She is where I need to put my energy and that is part of the reason the site is closing - so I can spend more time with her.
Will I ever re-appear in future? Well physically I’ll be hanging around, but as for another online presence like this I don't know... I'll take a few months off and re-evaluate some things. Do I want to review somewhere else? Do I want to start something different? Do I want to focus on 4K Blu-Ray’s only (Theresa – we may need to talk about a new TV/theatre setup in that case)? Perhaps a gardening site? I'm not sure... If there are any updates I'll post them on the site which will remain online, albeit not updated, so people can continue to reference the articles we posted online.
While I leave this site, I don't leave my friends so please, stay in touch and we'll talk soon.
Again, thank you all.

Just a quick message to everyone to have a great Christmas and New Years. We won't be updating over that period unless something major happens in the industry. Stay safe, and catch up with your families folks.

Sooo Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be a massive seller in March... actually scrap that. Sony have today confirmed the game has been delayed just over month and will now release in late April. Not too long a delay, and we'll be happy to ensure the game is as polished as it deserves.

BandaiNamco have today announced that God Eater Resurrection and God Eater 2 Rage Burst will be released on PS4, PSVita and PC in Summer 2016. The game is set in the early 2050s, unknown life forms called “Oracle cells” began their uncontrolled consumption of all life on Earth. A ravenous appetite coupled with a remarkable adaptability quickly turned those cells into the Earth’s biggest foe: Aragamis. Giant and invulnerable enemies completely immune to conventional weapons: this is what the world was facing. However, an elite force, called God Eater, was formed to take them head-on by using the recently developed weapons known as “God Arcs”. In a world ravaged by mad gods, these “God Eaters” are engaged in a desperate war... Here's a trailer...
Not finished with BandaiNamco yet with the company today announcing that Tales of Berseria will be released on PS4 and PC although a release date has not been given as yet. This will be the first game in the franchise to feature a female character as its singular main protagonist. In Tales of Berseria players embark on a journey as they assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within Tales of Berseria imbued her left hand with a special ability. Velvet will visit a wide range of breathtaking environments as she travels the world in an all-new adventure developed by the celebrated team behind the TALES OF series. Along her journey, Velvet will meet a whole cast of characters, including a young boy named Laphicet. If Velvet is the embodiment of “darkness,” then Laphicet is created in the image of “light” and will be an important ally to Velvet. Here's the announcement trailer...

Another 48 hours, and we have the latest 12 Deals of Christmas offer which is for FIFA 16. It's a great game so this discount at up to 49% off is most welcome and brings the Deluxe Edition down to $54.95 and Super Deluxe Edition to $69.95.
December 13, 2015
Another 48 hours, and another 12 Deals of Christmas offer is up on the Playstation Store. This time you can get 44% off the very entertaining Assassin's Creed: Syndicate which brings the game down to $62.95 for the Standard Edition, or $77.95 for the gold edition.

December 9, 2015

PS4 Review Minecraft Story Mode - A Telltale Game Series is a game which will generate a lot of interest. Indeed, Minecraft is more then a game, it's a phenomenon which has fans of all ages entralled. This latest relase from Telltale Games provides a story mode set within the Minecraft universe but, sadly, falls short of expectations, even though we don't have the full game as yet. Here's a review of the first three chapters.
December 7, 2015
Sony's 12 Deals of Christmas rolls on and the 4th offering is WWE 2K16 which has a massive 52% off and is now only $59.97 here in Australia.
PS4 Review Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition may sound like a game that has been released, and indeed it has. Unfortunately for developers Vigil Games when the game was released on PS3 a couple of years ago, publishers THQ went broke only months later and the game was soon forgotten. That's a shame as it's pretty good fun, and now the game has been upgraded for PS4.
December 6, 2015
So today was the Playstation Experience Day - an event where Sony were expected to, and did, announce a swag of new games and content for the Playstation Systems. Time to give you the details then, so here we go...
Level-5 are a masterful RPG developer and they have surprised with the announcement of a PS4 exclusive in Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. Of course the game is still a ways off, but it's looking pretty damn gorgeous like the original. Check out the trailer...
Hitman is due out in February and the developers and Sony have announced that the Beta will hit the Playstation 4 a week before it comes to PC.
Possibly unlikley to get a retail release here in Australia, but probably on PSN, Sony has announced MLB The Show 16 will be released in February 2016.
Two bits of Final Fantasy VII news today. First of all the PC port which has been ported to PS4 is out this week in America and Europe. It's a decent if underwhelming port really of a great game. More exciting though is the Final Fantasy VII Remake which has just been given a new trailer. It looks gorgeous and the wait for release, whenever that is, is going to be hard. Check this out...
As many of you would have heard PS2 emulation on the PS4 is a real thing. Sony unofficially unveiled it with the release of a Star Wars game a couple of weeks ago. Well, now it's real for a lot more games although, very disappointingly, you can't use your PS2 discs or PS3 purchases, you will need to re-purchase the games. There are some BIG upsides though with the games undergoing upgrades to 1080p resolution, Trophy Support, Share Play and Streaming. First games released (and available now) include GTA3, GTA: Vice City, The Mark of Kri, Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Twisted Metal: Black, and War of the Monsters, while PaRappa The Rappa 2, Fantavision, and Arc The Lad will soon join the list. Check out the trailer below...
What can we say about the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End multiplayer - it's fantastic, so get into it. But the Playstation Experience also saw a new trailer for the game released and it's stunning.
Playstation VR is starting to make a big splash and there were several new games announced to support the headset (which wasn't given an exact date or price). The games include Rez Infinite (Huzzah to that we say!), Ace Combat 7, Job Simulator (ermm, yar ok), 100ft Robot Golf, The Modern Zombie Taxi Co, Ubisoft's gorgeous looking Eagle Flight and a new game from Epic called Paragon.
Two bits of news from Sega today with word that Yakuza 5 is hitting the PS3 this week. Furthermore, and perhaps more exciting is the news that Yakuza 0 is heading to America (no word yet on Europe but fingers crossed.
Fat Princess Adventures for PS4 has been in development for some time now, and it has been pretty quiet of late, but Sony today dropped the bombshell that the game is out - today.
December 5, 2015
It's the third deal in Sony's cracking 12 Deals of Christmas and this time it really is an essential purchase, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The game is 50% off at the moment for $AU39.95. Remember too that the Uncharted 4 Beta kicked off yesterday and runs for a week, so that's a bonus!
December 3, 2015
Sony have put up their second of the 12 Deals of Christmas and this one is also a cracker. Yet again we have 52% off and this time it's for Mad Max - the fantastic open-world game from Avalanche Software. Available for 48 hours the deal puts the game at only $AU47.95 here in Australia.
PS4 Review Assassin's Creed: Syndicate is a game which Ubisoft will be desperately hoping restores the good name of their franchise - and in our books it does. After last years problematic launch for Unity, this latest game in their open-world franchise is a step in the right direction. Set in Victorian-era London you control twins Evie and Jacob Frye as they try to control the streets.
December 1, 2015
Sony have started their 12 Deals of Christmas sale this year and the first game up, and the discount, is a cracker. The first game is none other then Konami's super-impressive Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with a whopping 52% discount which brings the game down to $AU47.95 on the Australian store (we expect similar discounts in other territories). Get in quick though as these deals only last 2 days (48 hours) before being replaced with another deal.
Reports have surfaced online that Sony have unleased more PS4 power for developers to use in their games. This has happened with a 7th Core becoming available for developers to use (previosly they only had access to six of eight cores with two reserved for Operating System functions). This news comes about from FMod Audio Middleware's newest changelog with the line PS4 - Added FMOD_THREAD_CORE6 to allow access to the newly unlocked 7th core. If true, this is a potentially big boost for the PS4 similar to that which the XBox One underwent when it dropped Kinect support, thereby freeing up another core for developers. Don't expect to see immediate benefits, but older games could, theoretically, be patched to make use of the new CPU power.
So this is one a little unexpected, but today came unofficial news of a new Platinum Games title - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. This news comes from this page on the Australian Classification Board site which details the title, including publisher Activision, with an M rating awarded. Hopefully we'll hear more in the coming days.
Blu-Ray Review San Andreas 3D stars Dwayne Johnson (yes, the guy formally known as The Rock) and, as the title suggests, is a disaster film set on the San Andreas fault. This is an absolute rollercoaster ride and a fantastic 3D film with some stunning set pieces.

Have you been playing Star Wars: Battlefront? If so, you're not alone as millions of gamers have been enjoying the game since its release last week. One very cool feature of the game is being able to use Speeder Bikes on the forest moon Endor. They're super slick, and super fun and there might be a reason for that. As Eurogamer has uncovered, Criterion Games, the makers of Burnout assisted with development of the game.
NIS America, through Bandai Namco Australia, has announced that their episodic game République will be released on PS4 in early 2016 through the Playstation Store, and with a physical release. In the game you control Hope, a young woman held captive inside Metamorphosis, a shadowy totalitarian state ruled by the omnipresent Overseer. By hacking into this secret nation's elaborate surveillance network, players and Hope begin a treacherous and thrilling journey to freedom. Check out the Announcement Trailer below...
November 27, 2015
In somewhat expected news Electronic Arts have announced that Star Wars: Battlefront is their fastest selling game on digital platforms. While no sales figures have been released the company did revise expected sales for the game for the fiscal year up from 10 million to 13 million units.
Sony has announced that sales of the PS4 have now surpassed 30.2 million units after 2 years of sales. To put that into perspective that's two months quicker then the previous fastest selling console, the PS2, and with the next 2 months around Christmas set to be the biggest of the year it bodes well for the system's continued success. Microsoft no longer report sales of the XBox One - possibly due to sluggish sales - but estimates put their sales at around half of Sony's, if that.
November 25, 2015
It's release is only a week away now and the developers at Avalanche Studios have released a gameplay video showing off the first hour of Just Cause 3. Of course there are spoilers, but given the size of the game, it's only a small amount, and shows you what to expect from the title. Check it out below...
Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that Blinky Bill The Movie will be available on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital with UltraViolet from January 14, 2016. An adventurer at heart, Blinky (Kwanten) dreams of leaving his little home town of Green Patch and following in his missing Father’s footsteps. When Blinky discovers a mysterious marker that hints at his Father's whereabouts, he embarks on a journey that takes him beyond the boundaries of Green Patch and into the wild and dangerous outback.

Telltale Games have crafted some wonderful story focused games with their game based on A Game Of Thrones impressing most. Now, with success of that first series comes news that the developers are working on a Second Season of the game based on the hit HBO series. No details or date just yet.
3D Realms' latest title Bombshell won't make it's anticipate 2015 release but has now been given a firm January 29, 2016. The game has had a bit of a rocky past and was originally known as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction before Gearbox gently reminded them that 3D Realms no longer own the rights to the famous character with the isometric action game later being renamed Bombshell. Either way, it should be a title to keep an eye on.
Want to hear a very sad quote? Here you go... "I don’t think it’d be the right choice to continue indefinitely creating Souls and Bloodborne games". That's from the creator and director Hidetaki Miyazaki so, yar, Dark Souls III may be the end especially as he continued with "I'm considering Dark Souls 3 to be the big closure on the series. That’s not just limited to me, but From Software and myself together want to aggressively make new things in the future". Then again, Hideo Kojima, has been saying that for years about Metal Gear Solid - and it was only his removal from Konami this year that finally ended that relationship.
It was released a few weeks ago in America, and now Europe, including New Zealand and Australia, will see Primal Carnage: Extinction on Tuesday November 24. A new trailer is also released which you can see in our updated preview.
November 20, 2015
One game we've been following pretty keenly is Alone With You from Benjamin Rivers. While the game was expected in late 2015 a new post on the Playstation Blog (available here) has announced a (US) Spring 2016 release (so Q'2 2016).
Wargaming.net has announced an Open Beta for World of Tanks will take place on the weekend of December 4 to December 6. The game is a free multiplayer tank simulator which has been a phenomenal success on PC, although there won't be cross-platform play. Those who participate in the Beta will receive a premium tank with a custom emblem.

This is semi-exciting news with Sega confirming that their 2008 game, Valkyria Chronicles, will be upgraded and release on PS4 in Japan next February, on the 10th to be precise. The game is one of the most underrated of all time so a re-release is quite exciting, however a release outside Japan has not yet been confirmed. Adding to the excitement is the announcement of a new game in the series, Valkyria of the Blue Revolution, a demo of which will be included with the re-release on PS4.
A little while ago Jade Raymond, the creator of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed, announced she was forming a new studio in Montreal for Electronic Arts called Motive. In a somewhat unsurprising announcement EA financial boss Blake Jorgensen stated that Jade is working on a game similar to her hit franchise at Ubsosft. He stated "We've never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that's the action genre. That's the Assassin's Creed-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in. We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin's Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we're building out in Montreal right now. So a lot of excitement around the action genre.".

Terrorism and Industry News
As most of you would be aware there has been a horrific terrorist attack in Paris a couple of days ago. While the death toll continues to climb, and authorities are reportedly still hunting for the mastermind, the Playstation has come under fire from Belgian Federal Home Affairs Minister Jan Jambon. In this article on XPats he states that "PlayStation 4 is even more difficult to keep track of than WhatsApp" and this article on Politico, which was 3 days before the terrorist attacks in Paris he said "The most difficult communication between these terrorists is via PlayStation 4. It's very, very difficult for our services — not only Belgian services but international services — to decrypt the communication that is done via PlayStation 4.".
Now, we of course are big Sony fans, but for someone of importance to target a specific device is somewhat unsettling. We're all aware of the Sony Hack a couple of years ago and so they make their systems secure, now, it is being pointed out for being too secure. While these interviews were conducted just prior to the attacks in Paris, the timing couldn't be worse for Sony with many linking the events while the evidence isn't there in this case.
Due to the amount of press the attack and comments are getting, Sony have released a statement on the matter which is as follows:
PlayStation 4 allows for communication amongst friends and fellow gamers and, in common with all modern connected devices, this has the potential to be abused. However, we take our responsibilities to protect our users extremely seriously and we urge our users and partners to report activities that may be offensive, suspicious or illegal. When we identify or are notified of such conduct, we are committed to taking appropriate actions in conjunction with the appropriate authorities and will continue to do so.
Activision has today released Deadpool on the PS4 which is an upgrade to the PS3 game from a couple of years ago and retails for $59.95 here in Australia. The release includes DLC including two bonus challenge maps: "GRT Plaza" and "Inside the Tower" as well as The Uncanny X-Force and D-Pooly suits for looking gooooood in Infinite Mode.
November 16, 2015
We're pretty excited about this news with BandaiNamco confirmding that Dontnod's downloadable game Life is Strange getting a retail release as well and is set down for a January 22nd release. Furthermore The Limited Edition includes a directors' commentary, a physical 32-page art book, and 14 licensed tracks from the games official soundtrack as well as 8 tracks from the game's composer Jonathan Morali.
So how big a release is Fallout 4? Well very popular apparently with confirmation today that the publisher, Bethesda, has shipped 12 million units to retail around the globe. That doesn't mean sell-through numbers, but, as you're probably aware, it's a pretty massive seller.
November 13, 2015
Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Siege is out in only a couple of weeks, and as with most games these days there is a Season Pass available for gamers to spend even more money then just purchasing the game (sorry, we're just a big jaded with Season Passes becoming such a "normal" thing). Anyway this "year long" Premium Membership will set you back $AU39.95 (or is included in the Gold Edition of the game) and includes the following:
Seven day exclusive early access to the eight new operators that you can instantly add to your roster upon their release
Permanent 5% Renown boost to allow you to unlock content quicker
The exclusive Season Pass Porter weapon skin
The Safari Bundle of five weapons skins
Two extra daily Renown-earning challenges
600 R6 Credits that can be used to purchase additional in-game content
The first post-launch content pack, called Operation Black Ice, will be released in January and introduces two new operators from the Canadian JTF2 counter-terrorism unit, a brand new map, and more.
November 9, 2015
Ubisoft have today released a video detailing their post-release plans for Rainbow Six: Siege. The game looks great and there should be plenty of long term support so check it out...
November 7, 2015
So it's kind of a big day for FPS fans with Activision launching Call of Duty: Black Ops III across the globe. "With Black Ops III, we wanted to create a Call of Duty game like no other, one that brings innovations to every mode in the game, and introduces a few new surprises along the way, all while staying true to the gritty, blockbuster thrill ride for which the franchise is known. And Treyarch has delivered," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing Inc. "This game is so fun, so deep, so varied and has so many kick ass twists and turns, that we couldn’t be prouder of it. And we think our fans are going to love it."
November 6, 2015
