Telltale Games are a company that have shot to prominence in the last couple of years following some superb adventure games based on The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Tales From the Borderlands. Now the company is turning its attention to what is currently one of the most popular TV series - HBO's Game of Thrones which is based on the lengthy novels by George R. R. Martin. This game has been released in six episodic chapters since December 2014 with the last due out soon. Alternatively the game will be released on a disc in late November.
Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series tells the story of House Forrester, a noble house from the north of Westeros. Caught up in the events of The War of the Five Kings, they are placed in a precarious position where members of the household must do everything they can to prevent the house from meeting its doom.
This game takes place from the end of Season 3 and before Season 5 of the HBO series.
As with other Telltale games this plays like a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book (does anyone remember them, or am I just getting too old?) where any choices or actions you take will change the characters and story around you. This game is split up into six episodes (Iron from Ice, The Lost Lords, The Sword in the Darkness, Sons of Winter, A Nest of Vipers and The Ice Dragon) and takes place between Season Three and Season Five of the TV series.
The House Forrester isn't really seen in the TV series, but that's not to say this is a story without links to what we are familiar with. Not only does the game contain locations such as Kings Landing, The Wall, and Ironrath which is the home of House Forrester, but many actors from the HBO series reprise their characters for this game including Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Lena Heady as Cersei Lannister, Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell and Iwan Rheon as Ramsay Snow.

You will play the game from five different points of view. Each character you play as is a member of House Forrester; either a direct family member, or a person in service to House Forrester. Scattered across Westeros and Essos, the characters play their part in seeking to save House Forrester from destruction. This is a bit of departure for Telltale who's games usually focus on one or two main character across their multiple chapters.
With six episodes, each of which lasts around two hours, that makes this a 12-hour game, but with multiple paths and decisions altering the storyline there will be some incentive to replay the game. As expected there is no multiplayer in the game, nor are there any plans for DLC. Just like the TV series we can expect this isn't for youngsters with a MA15+ rating with the advice 'Strong Violence and Course Language'.
Natalie Dormer as Margaery in the game.
While other Telltale games have opted for a comic book style similar to that of their source material (The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us) the developers have gone for what they describe as 'painterly' visual style - so living oil paintings. As mentioned earlier in this preview actors from the HBO series have provided their likenesses and voiceovers for the game so expect to see characters including Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), Ramsay Snow (Iwan Rheon), and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
With the phenomenal success of Game of Thrones as a TV mini-series for HBO this video game couldn't be released at a better time and with likenesses and voiceovers from the main cast it is sure to generate a lot of interest. While the six chapters are available as downloads through the PlayStation Store this disc based release will be an option for many gamers when it hits shelves on November 20.
